“Everything okay?” He handed over a fork and knife, setting the mug next to her breakfast.
“You’re right. We’re stuck for the day.” She stuck her fork into the stack of pancakes and reached for the mug, blowing across the steaming surface.
He retraced his steps and poured himself a cup of coffee. Leaning his back against the counter, he sipped. “I promise not to take your tone as a comment on my abilities as a fake boyfriend.”
“What?” She raised her chin and frowned, setting her mug on the table. “Sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.” With the knife, she sliced through the pancakes, speared a bite, and stuffed it in her mouth then moaned.
“Much better.” He grinned. Grabbing another set of utensils, he crossed to the table and sat opposite. “I am sorry. I’m sure a delay isn’t ideal. When’s the last time you had a day off?”
She reached for her mug and sipped again. “I don’t know. My birth?”
“Really?”
Stuffing another bite in her mouth, she widened her gaze and chewed. She covered her mouth with a hand. “I’m not a workaholic.”
He drew together his brows. How did she add two and two and reach seventeen?
Swallowing her bite, she dropped her hand. “I’m a planner working in a freelance world. I probably shouldn’t be in such a volatile work environment. I like security.” She shrugged. “Show business is what I know and love.”
“How is behind the scenes going?”
“Not great.” She stuffed the last bite of pancake in her mouth.
