December always elicits memories of family holiday parties. For many years, my parents used to cram a ton of people into the apartment at the end of our store, for an annual festive get-together with tons of food. My sister and I would help Mom prepare for days ahead of time. And then there were the Christmas day meals, both at our house and at my grandmother’s house. It’s just a great time of year to eat. So of course, we have to celebrate as many December food holiday observances as we can get our hands on! Use this to help you to plan your menu at home, for creative snack ideas in the classroom, or party fun! I’ll keep adding links as I come up with them. Also be sure to check out my Pinterest boards of Recipes to Try and Montessori Food Prep Activities for even more ideas. Which ones are your favorites?
Monthly December Food Holiday Observances
December is a time to think of those big fruit basket gifts, so enjoy it as National Pear Month. We toast with the traditional egg nog, as it is National Egg Nog Month. And of course you cannot forget those homemade gifts that get passed around during National Fruit Cake Month.
